5 Tips on How to Clean Your House in Preparation for Your Baby
Knowing you are going to be welcoming a new arrival into your home is a very exciting time, although it can be quite daunting as well. Getting everything ready from your baby’s room to the rest of the house can be a mammoth task, especially the cleaning aspect of it! Here are 5 great tips on how to clean your house in preparation for your baby.
1. Invest in the right vacuum cleaner
Keeping your house dust and dirt free is an important task when preparing for your baby to be moving in. The right vacuum cleaner can save you time, money and energy when used on a daily basis. Companies such as Dyson or Electrolux offer the perfect upright vacuum cleaners which prevent you from having to bend down constantly. Look for a lighter weight model if possible, especially if you have stairs to carry your vacuum up and down. If you have pets, many vacuum cleaner companies offer an attachment or specific model that will handle all of those pesky animal hairs!
2. Save time on the dishes before your baby arrives
There is nothing worse than having to clean dishes every day, especially when your baby arrives and you have to add their bottles to the pile. Reduce the time you spend doing the washing up by purchasing a dishwasher to do it all for you! A full size dishwasher can handle washing up for a larger family, however if there are only a few of you it may be worth getting a slimline version instead. Hotpoint and Bosch are two leading names in the dishwasher world, both of which offer eco-friendly versions for those worried about their carbon footprint. Be prepared for your new arrival by getting a dishwasher early and working out how to operate it before filling it with bottles and baby equipment.
3. Be prepared for the extra laundry with a new baby!
You will soon miss the days of picking up your partner’s socks off the floor when you have to go around picking up baby clothes too. Gone are the ‘one wash load a week’ times as you find yourself competing with one wash load a day, if not more. You may find, if you do not have one already, that a tumble dryer may be a welcome addition to your home when your new baby arrives, as it will half the time it takes you to complete a wash load. When preparing for a new baby, try and get as much ‘back up’ washing done as possible, or you may find the pile to be never-ending when he or she finally arrives.
4. De-Clutter your house or nursery room
Getting rid of clutter before your new baby arrives will ensure a happier and healthy living environment. Perhaps the nursery was once a storage room and so now it is time to bag and box everything up. Get rid of anything that you do not need or want at car boot sales, online auctions or giving it to a charity shop. Everything you do want to keep find suitable storage solutions such as a garage or attic and put it all away. Do not leave any clutter or anything dangerous in the baby’s new room, as this could be a potential hazard.

5. Take some time out from preparing for your new arrival
During all the cleaning and preparation for your baby, it is important to take some time out with your partner, friends and family. Put in a good DVD, put your feet up and just enjoy the few moments of peace before the little one arrives.
