5 Steps To Converting Your Basement Into An Amazing Kids Play Room

Converting Your Basement Into a Kids Play Room

Think back to when you were a youngster and where you used to play. Do you remember how much fun you used to have? Sometimes the best way for children to have fun is to have their own dedicated play area. If you’re not using your basement at the moment it would be the perfect place to turn into an amazing play room. Converting your basement is an easy job and it’s also not too expensive, so you could have it up and running in no time.

No longer would you need to send your children outside all the time because they are bored of playing in their bedroom. There isn’t much room to play in their bedroom anyway because their bed takes up all the space. You could feel safe knowing they are inside your home and only a few feet away. If you think you like the idea we can take a look at what you should remember when converting the room. Once you are ready you can get started right away.

Waterproof and cover the walls

You don’t want to come down one morning and discover the basement looks like a swimming pool because there was water coming in through the walls. The water damage would be devastating, but it wouldn’t be as bad as the sad look on your children’s faces. Waterproof the walls and make sure there are no cracks. After that is done you should think about putting wooden walls up because they will look a lot better than concrete ones.

Add some technology

When your children are playing in the house you will feel safe, but it would still be better if you were always in contact with them while they played and you done the housework. You could set up a camera so you could see exactly what they were doing and you would know straight away if anything was wrong. An intercom would be great too and it would let you hear them if you never had a camera set up. They could call you when you were needed.

A softer floor

They won’t be able to play on a concrete floor because it’s an easy way for someone to fall and bang their head, especially if they are going to be climbing about on soft toys. It would be great if you could lay a proper floor and the chance of an accident would be greatly reduced. If you want to take it one stage further you could lay some soft mats down like the kind you would find in a proper crèche. They will feel safer running and jumping around.

Some nice colors

Your basement is probably dark and dingy looking at the moment and it’s no place for kids. If you added a little color to the room it would be completely different. Once you put new walls up you could have them painted with the kids favorite cartoon characters. There should also be adequate lighting so they can see what they are doing. You might even have to call out an electrician so he can add more light fixtures to the ceiling.

Lots of cool toys

Playing The Hero

Once everything is ready to go the only thing you’ll need now are toys or else they won’t have anything to play with. What you end up buying will obviously depend on what age they are and what they love to do, but if there is enough space don’t be afraid to add big toys. You could split the room into different parts and use it for different things. One area could be for painting, another could be for watching TV, etc. Just think back to when you were a kid and what you used to enjoy.
